At NightShield Dental, our nightguards are an affordable, at-home way to protect your teeth from the wear caused by grinding and clenching while you sleep. They're made from BPA-free EVA and mould to your own teeth at home, giving you a comfortable, contoured fit without the cost of a dentist-made guard.

They're designed as a practical everyday option for protecting your teeth, not a replacement for a custom guard made by your dentist.

What Your Guard Is Made From

Our guards are made from BPA-free, premium EVA, a flexible and durable material that's comfortable for nightly wear. It cushions your teeth and helps absorb and spread the force of grinding and clenching, so the impact lands on the guard instead of your teeth.

How to Mould Your Guard

Getting a good fit takes a couple of minutes:

  1. Submerge the guard in boiling water for the time listed in your instructions.
  2. Remove it and let it cool for around 10 seconds, until it's warm but comfortable to handle.
  3. Centre the guard over your upper teeth, bite down gently, and press along the outside and inside with your fingers and tongue so it moulds to the shape of your teeth.
  4. Let it set, then rinse under cool water.

This creates a snug fit shaped to your own teeth.

Trim and Refit for Comfort

Once it's moulded, check how it feels:

  • If any part sits too high on the gums or feels too long at the back, carefully trim the excess with clean scissors.
  • You can reheat and reshape the guard multiple times to fine-tune the fit.

Being able to re-mould and trim means you can adjust it to suit your own teeth and comfort.

Wearing and Caring for Your Guard

For best results, wear your guard consistently each night. Worn regularly, it acts as a protective barrier that helps shield your teeth from the wear and damage grinding and clenching can cause over time.

To keep it clean:

  • Rinse after each use.
  • Clean gently with a toothbrush and warm water.
  • Avoid toothpaste and harsh cleaners, which can scratch or degrade the material.
  • Store it in its case when not in use.

Good to Know

This isn't a one-size-fits-all device. Taking a few minutes to mould and trim it properly makes a real difference to comfort and fit.

A NightShield guard is a practical option for protecting your teeth from everyday grinding and clenching, or as a backup or temporary guard. It isn't a substitute for a custom guard professionally made by your dentist.
